Kevin Weakley Named Head Girls Basketball Coach

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2024 — St. Francis DeSales High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Kevin Weakley as the next Head Coach of our Girls Basketball program!

Coach Weakley spent twenty-two years leading the Worthington Christian boys basketball program, with an impressive 383-161 overall record which included state runner-up finishes in 2008 (Division IV) and 2020 (Division III). He also served as the Director of Athletics at Worthington Christian from 2006-2023. Weakley is a 1995 graduate of Worthington Christian HS, where he played basketball, leading his team to a Division IV State Runner-Up finish in his senior season.

His playing career continued at Otterbein College under legendary coach Dick Reynolds. Kevin started in all 25 games during his freshman season for the Cardinals averaging eight points, four assists, and two steals per game. In his senior season (1998-99), he went on to earn first team All-OAC, first team All-Great Lakes Region, and first team All-America from the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He led the OAC in scoring at 23.3 points per game, set an OAC single-season record with 100 made three-pointers, and was voted the Regional Player of the Year.

Weakley finished his college journey with 1,666 points, 569 assists and 256 steals. He made 230 of 602 (.382) attempts from behind the arc, and converted over 80 percent on free throws at 332 of 412. The lead guard ranks seventh on the Otterbein all-time scoring list and still holds the OAC record for most steals in a career.

Kevin was inducted into the Otterbein University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.

Kevin and his wife Anne Marie have three children; Katherine, Megan and Grant who is a sophomore at DeSales and a member of the Boys Basketball Program. Coach Weakley served as an assistant coach for the Boys Basketball Program at SFD during the 2023-24 season.

Andrea has spent 17 years at St. Francis DeSales serving as a teacher in our Science Department. She began as an assistant coach with the Girls Volleyball Program from 2006-2008 and 2013-2020. In 2014 she joined Coach Andy Feltz’s Boys Volleyball Coaching Staff. Andrea was an assistant coach on the 2019 Division I Girls Volleyball State Championship Team, as well as the 2023 Division II Boys Volleyball State Championship.

Coach Lee joined the Girls Golf Program in 2022 as an assistant coach under ten-year Head Coach, Charlie Mitchell. Hannah’s sister Samantha is a Spanish Teacher at SFD.

GIRLS SOCCER

Steve will once again return to the sidelines with the Girls Soccer Program after spending last season with the Boys Program. Coach Ulry has over 20 years of coaching experience including as an assistant coach at Otterbein College from 2002-2004 and two previous stints as the Head Girls Soccer Coach at SFD in 2005-2007 and Interim in 2015. He also served as the Head JV Coach and a Varsity Assistant from 2004-2005 and 2012-2021. Steve is in his 31st year of teaching Social Studies at SFD.

Arturo has served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons and takes over for Jenna Mar. Coach Sanabria’s daughter, Olivia, is a member of the SFD Class of 2024 and she is a three sport athlete (tennis, swimming, and lacrosse).

Rob Sangster Named Head Ice Hockey Coach

The St. Francis DeSales Athletic Department is happy to welcome Rob Sangster as our next Ice Hockey Coach!

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY, 24TH, 2024 — St. Francis DeSales High School is thrilled to announce the appointment of Rob Sangster as the new Head Ice Hockey Coach. With an impressive coaching background and a wealth of experience in the hockey world, Coach Sangster is poised to rebuild the St. Francis DeSales Stallions to new heights in the upcoming seasons.

Coach Rob Sangster brings with him a rich history of success in coaching, having previously served as the head coach at Olentangy and St. Charles. During his 11 seasons at St. Charles, he achieved a milestone of over 250 wins and guided the Cardinals to the 2014 State Final Four. His strategic approach, leadership skills, and dedication to player development make him an ideal fit for the St. Francis DeSales hockey program.

Not only does Coach Sangster have an outstanding coaching track record, but he also boasts an impressive playing career. Drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in 1989 with the 155th overall pick, he went on to play professionally for 7 years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), International Hockey League (IHL), and East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). His on-ice experience at a professional level will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and skill development of the St. Francis DeSales student-athletes.

St. Francis DeSales High School is confident that Coach Rob Sangster will bring a winning mentality, passion for the game, and a commitment to fostering a positive and competitive team culture. 2023 Stallion Summer League Registration

The St. Francis DeSales High School Stallion Summer League (SSL) was started over 20 years ago by head coach and now principal, Dan Garrick with the intention of giving boys in central Ohio an opportunity to develop their basketball skills in an organized game setting. Although the games will be competitive and records will be kept, the absolute top priorities are for the boys to have fun, learn and improve!

The Stallion Summer League is open to boys entering Grades 5-9 in the fall of 2023. Cost: $200. The registration deadline is May 6th. Registration after May 6th is $250.

Winter Sports Individual and Family Passes

Stallion Fans:

We are excited to announce we will once again offer 5 different Winter Sports Passes for spectators. These passes are a great way for individuals or families to save money and catch all the Stallion sporting events while avoiding processing fees for every game by purchasing the season pass. ALL single game tickets for home contests are $7.00 (CCL Policy) for Adults, Students, and Seniors, plus a $1.50 processing fee when you purchase online.
